Admission to Nursing

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program at Truman State University admits up to 60 students each fall semester. Admission to the nursing major is competitive and requires both admission to the University and completion of a separate nursing application.

Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission to the Nursing Program, applicants must: 

  • Be admitted to Truman State University
  • Submit a completed Nursing Program application
  • Meet the minimum academic requirements:
    • ACT score of 20 or higher, including science
    • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
  • Submit all required supporting materials, including:
    • Official transcripts
    • Personal essay/career goals statement to the nursing field

Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission, as available seats are limited and applications are reviewed competitively. 

Application Process

Step 1: Apply to Truman State University

Applicants must first submit an application for admission to Truman State University and receive an admission decision from the University. 

Step 2: Apply to the Nursing Program

Once admitted to Truman State University, applicants must complete the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Application. 

The BSN program is intended for: 

  • First-year students 
  • Transfer students 
  • Current Truman students changing majors 

The BSN degree requires approximately 122 credit hours and is designed as a four-year program with a fall semester start. 

Application Deadline

  • Priority Application Deadline: October 1. 
  • Initial application reviews will begin on October 15th. 
  • Applications are reviewed through April 1, or until all admission decisions have been finalized. 

Application Review

Applicants will receive notification of their admission status shortly after committee review. Admission decisions fall into one of three categories: Admitted, Waitlisted, and Denied.

Admitted

The applicant has been offered a seat in the Nursing Program

Waitlisted

The applicant meets admission standards, but has not been offered an immediate seat. Placement on the waitlist does not guarantee future admission.

Denied

The applicant was not selected for admission to the Nursing Program

Important Notes

  • Admission to Truman State University does not automatically guarantee admission to the Nursing Program. Students admitted to Truman State University, but denied to the Nursing Program, will still have ability to apply to the Nursing program the following fall
  • The Nursing Program admits a limited cohort of approximately 60 students each fall.
  • Because admission is competitive, applicants are encouraged to submit strong academic credentials and thoughtfully prepared application materials.
