Transfer Students

As a transfer student, you have a lot of questions. That is why we have dedicated staff who will help you make the transition. From academic advising and transcript evaluation to having a personal transfer admission counselor, we want your Truman experience to start before you are here.

Who is a transfer student?

Free Application

Your transition starts when you complete our free transfer application for undergraduate students. Once we receive the necessary parts of your admission file, we have your credits evaluated right away! This provides our Admission Committee with valuable information and also provides our academic advisers with insight into what courses you need to take. To make your enrollment easier, you’ll want to apply by October 1 for a spring start or by March 1 for a fall start.

Other Requirements

Truman also requires a number of other pieces to complete your application file. These are necessary components of your application. Without them, the Admission Committee will not make a decision. Processing of your application decision, including your credit evaluation, is typically completed in 3-4 weeks.

Transfer Scholarships

Your application for admission also serves as a scholarship application. That means no extra applications to fill out! Transfer students are also eligible for both automatic and competitive awards but should complete their applications early to be considered for all awards. Fall starting transfer students have until March 15 to complete their applications, while spring starting students should complete an admission application by November 1.

Getting Enrolled After Acceptance

After being admitted, you will receive an official Transfer Credit Evaluation. This will show what classes will transfer to Truman along with their Truman course equivalencies. You can also select your state and institution on our Transfer website to see what courses have been transferred to Truman previously.

The semester before you begin classes at Truman, you will be asked to complete an enrollment questionnaire. This will provide essential information to academic advisers in our Center for Academic Excellence, who will create enrollment recommendations for you. Truman even allows transfer students who have this information returned, to enroll when current Truman students begin enrollment. That is a huge advantage!

Transfer Orientation

Your transition wouldn’t be as smooth without our Transfer Orientation. We know that you are not new to college, but you are new to Truman. For that reason, we encourage all new transfer students to learn ways to make their transition as smooth as possible.

Events include:

  • Detailed explanation of your credit evaluation
  • Additional academic advising
  • Lunch with the President – and other important campus figures
  • Current student panel of previous transfer students
