Special Course Fees FAQs
What is a special course fee?
A special course fee is an additional fee charged for certain classes beyond the standard tuition and enrollment fees. These fees help cover course-specific costs such as specialized equipment, materials, software, or instructional expenses.
How do special course fees appear on my student bill?
Special course fees appear as separate charges on your electronic student bill based on the date they are assessed.
For example, if you enroll in BSAD 157 and BSAD 234 before fees are assessed, you’ll see one charge labeled Business Course Fee for $270 ($135 per course). If you later add BSAD 222 after the initial assessment, you’ll see a second Business Course Fee charge of $135 with a different assessment date.
All special course fee transactions are also summarized in your Account Summary in TruView.
What happens to my special course fee if I drop a class?
Your refund depends on when you drop the course:
- On or before the last day to withdraw with a “W”: The special course fee will be refunded in full and credited to your student account.
- After the last day to withdraw with a “W”: The special course fee is non-refundable.
How are special course fees different from other fees?
Special course fees apply only to students enrolled in designated courses and have different refund policies than standard student fees.
Other fees, such as the Activities Fee, Health Center Fee, and Athletic Fee, are charged to students enrolled in 6 or more credit hours. These fees follow the same refund schedule as tuition and enrollment fees, according to the university’s published enrollment and withdrawal deadlines.
How can I tell if a course has a special course fee?
Check the Attribute column in the Open Course List. Courses with a special course fee will be identified with the Special Course Fee attribute.
How do I find the amount of a special course fee?
If a course is marked with the Special Course Fee attribute in the Open Course List:
