Spring Commencement Info
The inclement weather site for Truman State University’s May 2024 Commencement Ceremony is Pershing Arena. We understand you have important people in your life attending the ceremony so Truman wants to provide the best opportunity for them to attend. If the University needs to enact the Inclement Weather Plan, we will hold two commencement ceremonies due to the large number of graduates and the smaller seating capacity available in Pershing Arena.
If the University enacts the Inclement Weather Plan and moves commencement indoors to Pershing Arena, here are the details for the two ceremonies:
FIRST COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY
All Bachelor of Science candidates attend this ceremony. The yellow tickets are required for entry.
Location: Pershing Arena
Ceremony at 1:00 p.m.
Doors open at Noon for guests.
Degree candidates need to arrive at the Pershing Small Gym (PB130) no later than noon to line up. Degree candidates must be in academic dress and remember to bring your green reader card with you.
SECOND COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY
All Emeriti Faculty, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master’s Degree candidates, and Commissioned Officers (ROTC service members) attend this ceremony. The purple tickets are required for entry.
Location: Pershing Arena
Ceremony at 4:00 p.m.
Doors open at 3:15 p.m., or as soon as guests and candidates have exited from the first ceremony, whichever occurs later.
Degree candidates need to arrive at Pershing Small Gym (PB130) no later than 3:00 p.m. to line up. Degree candidates must be in academic dress and remember to bring your green reader card with you.
TICKETS & SEATING
Even with two ceremonies, seating is constrained by the size of Pershing Arena, thus each graduate has received 5 tickets. Tickets will be required to enter Pershing Arena, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. If you requested special seating for any family member with a disability, that seating will still be available for them.
LIVESTREAM OF CEREMONY
Whether Commencement is held at Stokes Stadium or in Pershing Arena, the ceremony (or ceremonies) will be livestreamed on the Truman website at truman.edu/watch-ceremony and on Truman’s YouTube channel.
A decision to move the ceremony indoors will be made no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. Each graduate will receive an email with notification that the Inclement Weather Plan has been implemented for commencement. The information will also be placed on the University website homepage and TruView. Updates will also be posted to the Registrar’s Commencement webpage.
