Taking the DAT & Application Timeline

Freshman Year

  • Enroll in required pre-requisite science courses
  • Discuss options and goals with freshman advisor and pre-health advisor (if necessary)
  • Join pre-dental club
  • Job shadow dentists and other health professionals
  • Work or volunteer in a health care setting, preferably dental
  • Consider a summer medical/dental education program

Sophomore Year

  • Become more involved in pre-dental club and/or community service activities
  • Job shadow dentists and other health professionals
  • Work or volunteer in a health care setting, preferably dental
  • Consider a summer medical/dental education program
  • (Spring/Summer): Research and consider a reserved/early admissions program at a dental school, if you are a strong candidate

Junior Year

  • Complete courses necessary for the DAT
  • Create an application timeline for applying to dental school
  • Research dental schools you are interested in, talk to admissions, visit, etc.
  • Create a study plan and study for the DAT
  • (Spring): Take the DAT
  • (Summer): submit applications to dental schools

Senior Year

  • Participate in mock interviews
  • Prepare for dental school interviews
  • (After December 1): receive offers of admission and deny or accept
  • Finish all degree requirements & graduate
