Service Learning

[new page] Service-learning courses are project based, serving the linguistic needs of the local community. Service learning facilitates active learning, critical thinking, problem solving, effective communication, and fosters learner responsibility. All the projects in these courses involve having students use their skills to meet real-life needs here locally.

Dr. Elizabeth Naranjo Hayes consistently offers one undergraduate community-based service-learning course per semester: SPAN 455 (Translation and Interpretation - offered Spring semesters) and SPAN 367 (Medical Spanish - offered Fall semesters) at Truman State University. Other courses may offer service-learning opportunities as well, as the needs arise.
