KANSAS CITY - - Sophomore Kennedy Martin scored a career-high 19 points in 20 minutes off the bench, sparking the Truman women's basketball team to a 65-60 road victory at Rockhurst University on Saturday afternoon.

Martin, who saw extended minutes off the bench, helped spearhead both a 14-2 run that ended the second quarter as well as an 18-7 third quarter by Truman, who improved to 19-8 overall and 13-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Bulldogs trailed 22-15 after the first quarter and were down 34-23 with 4:21 to play in the first half, before the purple and white rebounded to take a 37-36 lead into the intermission.

Truman's lead then reached 11 at the 2:39 mark of the third quarter on a lay-up by Linnea Schmelzer, giving the Bulldogs a 51-40 lead and running the nearly 12-minute run to 28-7. The lead reached 13 on an Ashley Hartwig free throw, but the Hawks caught fire from deep to take a 57-56 lead on the Bulldogs with 5:13 to play. The teams flipped the script on top, before Cassidy Clark laid in a pass from Kasey Gassensmith with 1:43 on the clock, giving Truman a 61-60 lead. She converted the and-one free throw, and the Bulldogs iced the game at the foul line for the 65-60 victory.

Martin's game-high 19 points came on 6-of-9 shooting, including 4-of-6 from three-point range, and a 3-of-4 effort at the line. Clark added 15 points and eight rebounds as well off the bench, with Hartwig chipping in 12 points and nine rebounds. For the game, Truman shot 36% (22-of-61) but out-rebounded RU by nine, getting 13 second-chance points off 17 offensive rebounds.

Truman now sits in a tie for fourth-place in the GLVC overall standings at 13-4 with Quincy, who will be the Bulldogs' opponent on Thursday night in Quincy, Ill. The winner of Thursday's contest, which begins at 5:15 p.m., will receive a first-round bye in the GLVC tournament, while the loser will pick up the No. 5 seed and will host a first-round game on Sunday, Feb. 28.
