Bulldogs Blowout Southern Indiana On The Road

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Truman Women's Basketball team outscored Southern Indiana 28-14 in the second half and handed the Screaming Eagles their third straight loss 60-42 on Saturday afternoon on the road.
 
The Bulldogs are now 11-6 overall and 5-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while USI falls to 10-4 and 3-3 in the GLVC.
 
How It Happened:
  • The game was tied four times in the first quarter and six times over the first 12 minutes.
  • The Screaming Eagles led 26-25 before Truman scored seven straight with baskets by Cassidy Clark, Michalina Tomczak and a three-pointer by Mackenzie Jerks to take the lead for good with 49 seconds left in the quarter.
  • USI scored the first basket of the second half to cut the lead down to two but Kasey Gassensmith's three-pointer sparked a 14-2 run that gave the Bulldogs their first double-digit lead at 46-32.
  • The Bulldogs maintained their big lead for the remainder of the game as they held USI to only 14 second half points. The Screaming Eagles were 6-of-23 (26%) in the final 20 minutes from the field.
 
 
Key Stats/Game Notes:
  • The Bulldog bench outscored the USI bench 22-0 with nine Truman players scoring. Michalina Tomczak led the team with 10 points and seven rebounds in 27 minutes of play.
  • Truman hit a season-high nine three-pointers on the day. They were 9-of-20 from the arc (45%). The previous season-high was seven in their victory over Quincy and came into the game averaging 3.6 per contest.
  • Six different Bulldogs connected from long range with Mackenzie Jerks hitting the bottom of the net on three of her five three-point attempts.
  • The Bulldogs won the glass by eight 40-32 and had 18 offensive rebounds leading to 18 second chance points. Truman outscored USI 18-7 in second chance scoring.
  • Truman was 7-of-7 at the line while USI went 8-of-15.
  • The Bulldogs had 14 assists on their 22 made baskets.
  • Cassidy Clark was perfect from the field with three made field goals and added two blocks in 16 minutes off the bench.
  • Hannah Wascher led USI with 13 points while adding 12 rebounds.  
  • It was the eighth game this season that Truman has held an opponent to under 50 points scoring.
  • The 42 points allowed was the fewest by a Truman team in a GLVC conference game and least in a league game since a 72-39 win over Central Oklahoma in the MIAA in 2013.
  • Truman evens up the all-time series with Southern Indiana at three apiece and it was their first win in Evansville since 1998.
 
 
Up Next:
Truman returns home for a pair of games next weekend. The Bulldogs will host Missouri-St. Louis in a rematch of a double-overtime loss on January 2nd on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. before hosting Maryville on Saturday at 1 p.m.
