A First Look:
A busy stretch of matches awaits the Truman women's soccer team, as the Bulldogs will both open Great Lakes Valley Conference play and make two trips to St. Louis in a five-day stretch of time beginning this Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs – who opened the season with a split weekend in Kirksville last Friday (3-1 win vs. Ferris State) and Sunday (4-0 loss vs. #1 Grand Valley State) – will kick off GLVC play at home on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. against Maryville. Then, on Sunday, the Bulldogs will visit Missouri-St. Louis at 12 p.m. before turning right back around and heading back to the St. Louis area on Tuesday (Sept. 15) night to battle non-conference rival Lindenwood at 7 p.m.

Despite getting out-scored 5-3 last weekend, the Bulldogs walked away with a 1-1 record after getting a trio of goals from two seniors on Friday afternoon. Midfielder Alexis Heffernan recorded her 20th and 21st career goals in the second half, while defender Megan Frkovic got the scoreboard going with a set piece goal in Truman's 3-1 win against another set of Bulldogs from Ferris State. On Sunday, the Bulldogs ran into a tough Grand Valley squad, who used three first-half goals to pick up a 4-0 win on the Bulldog Soccer Park grass – the first defeat handed to Truman at home since October 2013.

Head coach Mike Cannon – the winningest coach in program history with 291 career victories – is in his 23rd season at the helm of the Truman women's soccer program in 2015. He is seventh all-time in victories amongst all NCAA-II coaches.

  • Four players have scored two goals already this season, including junior Dani Schmitz who added an assist for a team-high five points.
  • Sophomore Madison Buelow played all 180+ minutes in goal for the Saints, posting a 69.2 save percentage, as she gave up four goals on nine shots.
  • The Saints were picked to finish tied for 11th in the GLVC preseason coaches' poll after posting a 6-8-3 record (5-8-2 GLVC) last season.
  • Truman won 2-1 in OT last season in St. Louis on Oct. 26, 2014. Alexis Heffernan scored in the 36th minute off an assist by Allison Lockett, before MU equalized in the 85th. The Bulldogs received an "own goal" in the 104th minute after a scramble following a corner kick to pick up the three points.
  • Eric Delabar is the head coach of the Saints. Lori Chalupny, a member of the 2015 USA Women's World Cup championship team, is an assistant coach with the program.

Missouri-St. Louis "Tritons" – Sunday at 12 p.m. -  St. Louis, Mo.
  • The Tritons were idle during opening weekend and will enter the week having played just one game on Tuesday (Sept. 8) night against Lindenwood. UMSL made their wait count, however, as the squad manhandled Lindenwood by a 7-0 score. Two junior transfers – Kayla Delgado and Miriam Taylor – scored twice each for UMSL.
  • After going 8-8-1 (6-8-1 GLVC) in 2014, the Tritons were picked to finish ninth in the 2015 GLVC preseason coaches' poll.
  • UMSL won four of its last five to close the 2014 season; however, its one loss came to Truman on Oct. 24, 2014, in Kirksville – a 1-0 Bulldog win. Alexis Heffernan scored in the 85th minute off a Megan Whitehead assist to give the Bulldogs the win.
  • Wendy Dillinger is the head coach of the Tritons.

Lindenwood "Lions" – Tuesday at 7 p.m. – St. Charles, Mo.
  • Lindenwood will be playing its fourth straight GLVC opponent when Truman visits on Sept. 15, as the Lions have opened the season with a 1-0 win against Missouri S&T, a 2-2 draw at Drury, and the aforementioned 7-0 home loss to UMSL.
  • Three players have each scored one goal for LWU, while freshman keeper Zoe Wetzel has made all three starts in net – posting 14 saves and a 60.9% save percentage.
  • The Lions, who posted a 7-9-3 record in 2014, were picked to finish fifth in the MIAA conference this season.
  • Truman is 4-5-1 all-time against Lindenwood, with the Bulldogs having picked up a 2-1 overtime win at home against the Lions last season. LWU went ahead 1-0 in the 50th minute, before Megan Whitehead scored off a Lauren Seawright assist in the 81st minute. Alexis Heffernan then scored an unassisted game-winner in the 97th minute for the win.
  • Laurie Kaminski is the head coach of the Lions.

Prime Time in 2015:
For all 2015 Great Lakes Valley Conference soccer home doubleheaders, the Bulldog women will take the field second, following the men's game that starts 2.5 hours prior. This will be the first switch of game times during Truman's three-year membership in the GLVC.

All road doubleheader times are set by that host institution.

Bulldogs Picked Third in GLVC Preseason Poll:
The Bulldog women's soccer team was picked to once again be amongst the conference elite on Thursday, as Truman earned three first-place votes and landed third in the 2015 Great Lakes Valley Conference preseason coaches' poll.

Truman, having just completed its 20th straight 10-win season in 2014, earned 188 total points in the 16-team poll to land between preseason-2nd place Rockhurst (196 points) and preseason-4th place UW-Parkside (184 points, four first-place votes). Bellarmine was the league's favorite for the coming season, picking up 219 total points and nine first-place votes.

Quincy (170), Drury (168), Lewis (133), and Missouri S&T (116) rounded out the top-half, while Missouri-St. Louis (108) also topped the century mark in points to place ninth. McKendree (94) held 10th, while two programs – Maryville and William Jewell – each finished with 80 points to share 11thplace. Indianapolis (76), Southern Indiana (61), Illinois Springfield (32), and Saint Joseph's (15) rounded out the poll.

The top eight teams will qualify for the 2015 post-season tournament, to be held Nov. 1 (quarterfinals) and Nov. 6-8 (semifinals/final) on campus sites.

Huyck to the Hall:
Emily Huyck will join the Truman Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the 2015 induction class this fall.

Huyck was a two-time Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Most Valuable Player and a three-time first team all-conference goalkeeper for the Bulldogs from 1998-2001. She set a school record 43 shutouts and currently has the ninth longest shutout streak in Division II at 955:21. She is one of only three keepers in the top 20 with two shutout streaks over 850 minutes long.

Huyck is 13th in Division II in career goals against average, first in the MIAA at 0.49 and shares the conference record with fewest goals allowed in a season with seven.  She was 21-1 in the first three years of women's soccer in the MIAA while the Bulldogs began a dynasty of winning seven straight league titles from 1999 to 2005.

During her senior season in 2001, Huyck became the first keeper in Truman history to earn all-America honors as she garnered National Soccer Coaches Association of America second-team honors while leading the Bulldogs to an 18-3 record and the NCAA National Quarterfinals.

Huyck went into the coaching ranks as she was a student-assistant for the MIAA champion and NCAA Tournament bound Bulldogs in 2002. Then while pursuing her master's degree at the Minnesota State University in Mankato, Huyck was a graduate assistant in 2004.

Huyck returned to Truman as a full time assistant coach in 2005. She is currently the Director of the Montessori Co-op School in Omaha, Neb., and continues her involvement with soccer by coaching various ages at the club level and runs her own introduction to soccer/skills camp for younger children.

Up Next:
The Bulldogs will return to Kirksville on Friday (Sept. 18) and Sunday (Sept. 20) for key GLVC matches on Family Weekend. Truman will play host to Lewis on Friday at 3:30 p.m. before welcoming UW-Parkside on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
