Match Breakdown:
  • Truman jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the opening set and hit .542 with 16 kills on 24 swings to set the tone early with a 25-13 win. Jasmine Brown was a perfect 5-for-5 in kills-attacks while also serving two aces. UIS hit just .105 and sided-out at 36%.
  • The second set was tighter in the early going, as Truman led 10-8 before UIS rattled off six in a row to force a timeout at 14-10 Prairie Stars. Out of the break, however, the Bulldogs would score six in a row of their own and never give up the lead again. Truman led 19-18 before a Sadie Pafford serving rally gave Truman the final six points of the set for a 25-18 decision. The Bulldogs hit .333 with 13 kills and sided-out at 52%.
  • The third set was the most even of the three, as the teams played to eight ties and a pair of lead changes in the 25-18 Bulldog win. Both teams were hitting around the .000 line before a late Bulldog burst pushed the squad to a line of .216 in the final frame. Kayla Bastian recorded six kills and six of her six in the third, while Abby Heise added three kills and six digs of her own. The Bulldogs sided-out at a 72% clip to keep the Prairie Stars off any long rallies.

  • The trio of Bailey O'Drobinak, Heise, and Emilee Walters combined for 19 kills and a .457 hitting line, while also coming through with five blocks.
  • Truman served up a dozen aces, with 10 coming from a trio of outsides – Bastian, Brown, and Pafford.

Coach Says:
  • "We did a great job serving today to keep them out of rhythm, and our offense performed exceptionally well. We understand that it's a season-long process, and we're working on getting better every match." – Ben Briney.

Extra Notes:
  • The 12 aces by the Bulldogs marked the most for the program in more than two calendar years, dating back to a 14-ace outing in five-sets against Saint Leo. The program also tied the three-set program rally-scoring-era record of 12, which came in September of 2010 against Nova-Southeastern.
  • Truman's top hitting performance this season prior to today came in the season-opener – a .219 mark against Mary (N.D.) in a four-set win.
  • This was the first three-set victory for the Bulldogs this season and only the second three-set match of the year.

Up Next:
  • Truman hits the road next Friday and Saturday for a swing through the conference's eastern-most programs. The Bulldogs will battle Bellarmine on Friday, Sept. 25, at 6 p.m. (CT) in Louisville, Ky., before facing Southern Indiana at 3 p.m. (CT) on Saturday, Sept. 26 afternoon in Evansville, Ind.
