Volleyball Drops Four-Setter to Open GLVC Play

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - The Truman volleyball team dug itself too deep of a hole to climb out of on Friday night, as visiting McKendree spoiled the Bulldogs' 2015 home opener with a 3-1 (27-25, -22, 12-25, -15) setback on Friday night in Pershing Arena.

Match Breakdown:
  • A back-and-forth first set saw the teams play to a 21-all stalemate, before the squads started trading points in two's. McKendree had the first set point at 24-23, but a Bastian kill and a Mason setter kill propelled Truman on top, 25-24. Following a Bearcat timeout, the guests got two straight kills before a Bulldog attack error gave the 'Cats the set at 27-25.
  • Truman out-hit McKendree .233 to .158 in the second set, but a 9-4 mid-set run turned a 13-13 score into a 22-17 edge for the Bearcats. Truman would pull to within two at 22-20 and 24-22, but a McKendree kill sent the teams to the intermission at 2-0.
  • The third set was all Truman, as the Bulldogs held McKendree to a -.050 attack line. Ali Patterson had four kills and Bastian added three more to go alongside 10 Bearcat hitting errors. Truman jumped out 12-2 and never looked back on the way to a 25-12 decision.
  • After Truman took a 2-0 lead to start the fourth, McKendree battled back with an 8-2 run to take an 8-4 lead. The score would be 9-8 before the Bearcats scored 13 of the next 16 points to eventually run away with the set, 25-15.
  • Truman hit .176 on the night to .167 for McKendree, but the Bearcats totaled 58 kills to Truman's 43. The Bulldogs did have 12.5 blocks to just six for McK.
 
Extra Notes:
  • The Bulldogs lost their GLVC opener for the second time in three seasons as members of the league, as Truman opened the 2013 season with a loss at Lewis before defeating Wisconsin-Parkside at home to open last year's league slate.
  • The 20 digs for Abby Heise set a new career-high for the senior, who is playing all six rotations for the first time in her Truman career.
  • Truman is now 9-3 against McKendree all-time.
