Weekly Preview:
After opening with a split at the Midwest Regional Challenge this past weekend at Maryville University in St. Louis, the Truman men's basketball team will hit the home court for the first time this season on Wednesday night, battling Central Christian (Mo.) in the second game of a TSU/CCCB doubleheader with the Truman women. Tipoff for the men is set for 7:30 p.m.

Then, on Saturday, the Bulldogs will head to Fayette, Iowa, for a Div. II game against Upper Iowa. Tipoff against the Peacocks is slated for 7 p.m.

The Bulldogs went 1-1 in St. Louis on opening weekend, as Truman pounded Trevecca Nazarene 97-66 in the season-opener on Friday, Nov. 13, before falling at the buzzer against Ohio Dominican, 64-62, on Saturday, Nov. 14. Five Bulldogs averaged double-figures offensively in the two games, led by junior Kyle Kanaskie's 15.0 ppg. Truman shot 48% from the floor, hit 20 three-pointers, and converted at an 84% clip from the foul line.

Chris Foster in his second season as the head coach of the Bulldogs and is in his third season with the program overall. He has a career record of 21-11 (.656).

Scouting the Opponents:
Central Christian (Mo.) "Saints" (3-0)
  • Off to a 3-0 start, having picked up wins against Calvary Bible, Ozark Christian, and Lincoln Christian to start their 2015-16 season.
  • Averaging 92.5 points per game and shooting 51.1% from the floor.
  • Led by 16.0 ppg by Yberson Augustin. Both Gibson Louis and Galeel Lee are averaging double-doubles.
  • Only one player from last season's 97-41 Truman win is still on the CCCB roster (#15 Daniel Salas).
  • Jack Defreitas is in his fifth season as the head coach at CCCB.

Upper Iowa "Peacocks" (2-3)
  • UIU opened the season with three losses at the CCA tip-off classic in late October in Anaheim, Calif., but since rebounded last weekend with wins against both #14 Northwest Missouri (76-72) and Missouri Western (86-78). The Peacocks will travel to Quincy on Wednesday (Nov. 18) night before hosting Truman on Saturday.
  • Josh Weeber is team's leading scorer at 16.0 ppg, shooting 54% overall, 58% from three-point range, and hitting 87% of his free throws. Jimmy Roth (10.8 ppg) and Carson Parker (10.0) also in double-figures offensively.
  • UIU is at a -1.6 scoring margin on the season (76.6 – 78.2), but is shooting 44% overall (37% 3FG).
  • Saturday night will be the home opener for the Peacocks.
  • Brooks McKowen is in his third season as the UIU head coach. Both he and Bulldog head coach Chris Foster were members of the University of Northern Iowa basketball program in the early 2000s, with Foster also serving as a GA during McKowen's final season.

New Men's Basketball Rules:
The NCAA Men's Basketball Rules Committee made more than 25 rules changes, most of which increase the pace of play, reduce the number of stoppages, and provide better balance between offense and defense.

Notable key rule changes for the 2015-16 season include:
  • Shot clock time reduced from 35 seconds to 30 seconds.
  • Timeouts:
    • Reduction of 30-second timeouts from four to three, only two of which carry over to the second half.
    • A 3-0 second timeout called within 30 seconds of a media timeout will become the media timeout.
    • Coaches can only call timeouts during a dead ball situation.
  • The 10-second backcourt count resets except when:
    • Defender causes the ball to go out of bounds;
    • Offense retains possession on a held ball; or,
    • A technical foul is called on the offensive team.
    • Note: A charged timeout by the offensive team results in a new 10-second count.
  • Removed the five-second closely guarded count on a dribble.
  • Guarding in the post: Arm bar allowed in post area when offense has back to basket (with or without ball).
  • Airborne shooter charge plays – cannot score basket on a player-control foul.
  • Removed the prohibition against dunking the ball while the ball is dead; teams will be allowed to dunk during pre-game and halftime.
  • Reduced time to 15-seconds for replacing disqualified players.

Up Next:
With the early portion of the Thanksgiving holiday week off, the Bulldogs will head to Springfield, Mo., on Friday-Saturday, November 27-28 to compete in the Drury Thanksgiving Classic. Truman will play Cameron (Okla.) and Union (Tenn.) in the two-day event.
