Swimming takes three of four at Lewis Tri-Meet

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - - The nationally-ranked Truman women's and men's swimming teams competed in a tri-meet on Saturday on the Lewis University campus, with the No. 4 Bulldog women winning both, while the No. 17 men went 1-1 in action against the host Flyers and Lake Forest.

The Bulldog women moved to 6-0 in duals this season with two wins on Saturday, picking up a 171.5 – 89.5 win against Lewis and a 218-20 win against Lake Forest. On the men's side, Truman defeated Lake Forest by a 191-66 score but fell to the Flyers 139-120.

"The fact that we swam without our full squad this weekend really shows how deep our team is with depth and versatility," head coach Ed Pretre said post-meet. "It was great to see everyone step up in their races.

Highlights for the meet included three victories for both freshman Emma Barnett, who touched first individually in the 1000 Free (10:35.48), the 200 back (2:07.66), and the 200 IM (2:13.66), and for sophomore Nikki Sisson, who captured the 50 Free (24.60), 100 Free (53.25), and the 200 Free (1:54.37). Sisson's 200 Free and the Bulldogs' 200 Free Relay squad (1:39.45) that consisted of Sisson, junior Alison Strickler, sophomore Jamie Fitzpatrick, and junior Emily Ponte set new Lewis pool school records.

On the men's side, three individuals captured first-place finishes, as junior Neil Girmus won the 100 Breast (59.67), sophomore Jeff Cavanaugh topped the 500 Free (4:48.38), and senior Alec Morgan won the 200 Free (1:46.76). The Bulldog men also won the final event of the night, edging Lewis in the 200 Free Relay (1:27.07) behind senior George Dowdy, freshman Sam Heveroh, Girmus, and freshman Caleb Kruse.

"The coaching staff is very pleased with both teams right now, and we are looking forward to seeing what we do at Northwestern in the next few weeks after we rest," Pretre said.

Both teams will now relax from competition for nearly three full weeks before competing at the annual Northwestern TYR Cup on Nov. 20-22 in Evanston, Ill.
