QUINCY, Ill. - - In a relatively even match on the stat sheet, it was an early goal by the host Quincy Lady Hawks that proved the difference-maker in a 1-0 Truman women's soccer loss on Wednesday night in the 2014 regular season finale.

The Bulldogs (12-4-2, 10-3-2 GLVC) ended the regular season as the No. 4 seed in the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament, which begins on Sunday (Nov. 2) afternoon. Truman will play host to No. 5 seed Drury for the second time this season at the Bulldog Soccer Park at 12 p.m., with the Bulldogs looking to replicate the team's Sept. 28 2-0 win in order to reach the semifinals next Friday.

On Wednesday night, QU – who needed a win or tie to guarantee its spot in the conference tournament – got on the board in the 7th minute when Ashley Burton scored from just outside the six-yard box to go ahead 1-0. While the remainder of the first half was heavily played in Quincy's favor, the Bulldogs turned the table in the second half and applied pressure throughout much of the 45 minutes. Truman put six shots towards the Hawk net in the second half, but the Bulldogs' late barrage didn't provide an equalizing tally.

Megan Frkovic took four shots (two on net) to lead the purple and white on the offensive end, while keeper Katie Mattingly made three saves in goal.

Truman returns to the postseason after making its maiden voyage last year in its first year of eligibility. The 12 p.m. kickoff against DU on Sunday will feature a $5 ticket price for adults and a $2 ticket charge for students in grades K-12 and seniors over 60 years of age. Truman students (with ID) will be admitted free. The advancing team will face the winner of No. 1 Wisconsin-Parkside and No. 8 Lewis in the GLVC semifinals.
