Volleyball Recap: Truman 3, Drury 1

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - - Sophomore Kayla Bastian recorded 17 kills and 20 digs, while junior Abby Heise posted a well-rounded night of 13 kills, six assists, six digs, and six blocks to send the Truman volleyball team to its 12th straight win on Friday night. The Bulldogs downed Drury 3-1 (-21, 22-25, -19, -20) at Weiser Gym on the DU campus.
 
The Bulldogs (14-2, 10-0 GLVC) became the conference's first 10-match winner this season, rallying from a 1-1 split to win sets three and four. Truman hit .223 on the night, putting away 60 kills on 188 attack attempts, while Drury hit just .164 with 58 kills and 27 errors on 189 swings.
 
Bastian led all 'Dogs with 17 kills and was one of three Truman players to reach 20 digs defensively. Senior Meghan Zimmerman paired a team-high 21 digs alongside 42 assists for a double-double, while senior Abby Moser hit five digs per set with 20 digs on the night.
 
Heise, meanwhile, was a little bit of everything for the Bulldogs on Friday night, as she hit .444 with 13 kills on 27 swings. She added six assists and six digs, while also having a hand on six of the Bulldogs' 13 blocks in the match. Junior Ali Patterson added eight kills and eight blocks to go with six digs of her own, while freshman Jasmine Brown finished the night with nine kills and six digs.
 
Drury was led by 19 kills and five blocks from Laynie Timmons, while Bridget Justis led the Panthers (8-7, 3-7 GLVC) with 21 digs on the back line.
 
The Bulldogs face a fast turnaround on Saturday, as the squad travels to Rolla for a 12 p.m. match with Missouri S&T. Following that contest, Truman will take on non-conference foe Harding (Ark.) at 3:45 p.m. at S&T.
