Bulldog Women Place Sixth, Men Seventh at TYR Cup

EVANSTON, Ill. - - A late surge in the TYR Cup's final event propelled the Truman women's swimming team to a sixth-place finish in the team competition, while the Bulldog men notched a seventh-place finish at the three-day event, hosted by Big Ten program Northwestern (Ill.) University.

The Bulldog quartet of Alison Strickler, Evyn Spencer, Bailey Peterson, and Casey Jepsen finished seventh in the 400 Free Relay with a B-cut time of 3:30.54 to earn 26 points towards its three-day total of 252. On the day, the Bulldog women secured seven B-cut times to finish the event with 20 standard settings entering the final week of November. Hannah Nicks had one of the top days for the Bulldog women, finishing second in the 50 Back (26.68) to earn 17 team points while also picking up a sixth-place finish in the 200 Back. Her prelim time of 2:03.36 was a B-cut.

Other individual B-cut times on the day were set in the 100 Free (Spencer, 52.56; Jepsen, 52.27), 200 Breast (Abby Hempen, 2:19.57; Ally Neumann, 2:21.52), and 1650 Free (Brynn Guardado, 17:14.80). All five earned team points with their results in finals swims.

On the men's side, the four-man team of Neil Girmus, Alec Morgan, George Dowdy, and Etienne Thro took home 15th in the 400 Free Relay to pick up 24 points, while Girmus logged the only individual point of the day - touching in a time of 2:10.77 in the 200 Breast. The Bulldog men finished the meet with 122 points.

The Bulldog teams have one meet remaining in the fall semester, as the squads will host Lewis (Ill.) on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 11:00 am in the Pershing Natatorium.
