Opening Kickoff:
Just three matches remain in the 2013 regular season for the 23rd-ranked Truman women's soccer team, and the Bulldogs continue on their quest for a conference title with two road matches this Friday and Sunday at Southern Indiana and Illinois Springfield.

The Bulldogs (10-2-3, 9-1-2 GLVC) enter the week with their conference destiny in their own hands, as three wins in the final three matches would secure at minimum a share of the GLVC title during the team's first year of conference play. However, a lengthy road trip stands in their way this weekend, as Truman visits an upstart USI squad on Friday (Oct. 25) night at 5:00 pm before stopping by the capital city of Illinois on Sunday (Oct. 27) afternoon for a noon clash with UIS.

Truman suffered its first hiccup since the season-opener last Friday, as Bellarmine snapped the 'Dogs' 12-match unbeaten streak by downing Truman 1-0 with a second half goal. The Bulldogs recovered quickly, though, pounding McKendree with a four-goal offensive onslaught on Sunday en route to a 4-1 win on Senior Day.

Trisha Shoemaker, Kristina Weishar, and Suzanne Pelley – three of Truman's seven seniors – stole the show offensively Sunday, as the trio combined for three goals and three assists, while fellow senior Emily Bozdeck allowed just a penalty kick goal while making six saves.

On the season, the Bulldogs hold a +17 goal differential, as 12 different players have combined to score the team's 23 total tallies. Shoemaker leads all players with six goals and 15 points, while both Weishar and sophomore Alexis Heffernan have added a team-best four assists.

Bozdeck continues to put forth one of the strongest goalkeeping seasons in program history, having allowed just six goals in 15 matches for a 0.38 goals-against average. She has a 90.3 save percentage with 56 total saves and has recorded nine shutouts.

Leading the Bulldogs on the sideline is head coach Mike Cannon, who is in his 21st season at the helm of the Truman program. He has a 275-98-41 all-time record at Truman and is the seventh-winningest active coach in NCAA-II history. Cannon has guided the Bulldogs to nine NCAA postseason appearances.

Bozdeck, Bulldogs Amongst National Leaders:
Senior keeper Emily Bozdeck not only leads the GLVC in save percentage (.903) and ranks second in goals-against average (0.38), but she is amongst the top 12 of all NCAA Div. II keepers in both categories. Bozdeck is ninth in the nation in save percentage and 12th in GAA.

As a team, Truman ranks 16th in the nation in shutout percentage (60%) and 34th overall in win-loss-tie percentage (.767).

Shoemaker Cracks Program Top-10:
With her multi-goal game on Sunday, senior forward Trisha Shoemaker moved into 9th-place on the program's all-time goals scoring chart, passing both Riley Mahn and Jill Benson. She sits one back of recent graduate Olivia Hayes (24 goals, 2009-12) for eighth all-time and four behind Jessica Wiegert (27 goals, 2006-09) for seventh.

You Can Put It on the Board…:
Soccer statisticians point to the correlation between earning at least a win/draw when scoring the game's first goal, and that has been seen this season with the Bulldog women. When Truman scores first, the purple and white are a perfect 10-0, compared to just an 0-2-1 record when the opponent scores first.

Bulldogs Controlling Pace of Play:
Of the 1,421-plus minutes of action this season, the Bulldogs have only trailed for 53 minutes and 49 seconds – just 3.8% of the season. Truman has been tied with its opponents 61.4% (872:17) of the time and has been leading 34.9% (496:01) of the time spent on the field.

Truman has failed to lead in a match just five times this season, including in all three of the team's draws (Winona State, Lewis, Drury), as well as its season-opening OT loss at now-No. 2 Minnesota State and last Friday's match against Bellarmine.

Opponent Quick Glance:
Southern Indiana
The Screaming Eagles check into Friday's match coming off a 3-2 win at UMSL on Sunday; however, that followed two straight losses at Maryville and UW-Parkside. USI gave up nine goals in its last three matches – a stark contrast from its previous five-match stretch where the team surrendered just two goals. On the season, USI is 5-2 at home, compared to 3-3-1 on the road.

With a goal differential of +6 on the season, USI has been led by four goals apiece by Madi Vellky and Natalie Geiger. Vellkey is also the team's assist leader with four, while two other players have added three each. Jackie Lohmann has made 13 starts in net, posting a GAA of 1.06 with a .806 save percentage.

Krissy Engelbrecht is in her 11th season at the helm of the USI program, have accumulated a 85-97-13 record at the school.

Illinois Springfield
The Prairie Stars are coming off a 1-1 weekend at UMSL (W 1-0) and Maryville (L 3-1), giving the team its first GLVC win of the season. UIS is 2-6 at home (0-5 GLVC) in 2013.

Sporting a goal differential of -7 (-17 in GLVC-only matches), UIS has gotten eight of its 17 goals from Kim Tokarski. Tokarski also shares the team-high in assists with two for 18 total points, while Ashley Surface has added three goals and a team-high 26 total shots. Both Paige Polonus (1.37 GAA, .852 sv%) and Robin Damron (2.12 GAA, .767 sv%) have made multiple starts in net for UIS, combining for a 1.69 GAA and an .819 save line.

Molly Grisham is in her first season as the UIS head coach, having previously served as the head coach at Wayne (Neb.) State for four seasons.

Bulldogs Stay in Poll at #23:
In the NSCAA top-25 coaches' poll, the Bulldogs slipped back three spots to No. 23 in this week's ranking, unveiled Tuesday afternoon. Truman continues to be just one of two (No. 9 Quincy) GLVC squads ranked in the top-25, with fellow regional-mate Grand Valley State holding down the top spot with a 12-0-1 record.

While the Bulldogs have been consistently ranked third in the NSCAA weekly rankings, the first of three sets of official NCAA regional rankings comes out this Wednesday afternoon.

GLVC Tourney Outlook:
With just three conference matches to go in the 2013 regular season, the Bulldogs find themselves one game behind Quincy for the top spot in the GLVC standings. Truman is one game clear of UW-Parkside in the No. 2 slot and needs just one win to secure a first-round home match in the GLVC tournament, as the Bulldogs are 2.5 games ahead of both Bellarmine and Rockhurst.

The top four teams will host a GLVC first-round game against seeds 5-8 on Sunday, Nov. 3, with the advancing teams moving on to the top remaining seed for semifinal and championship play on Nov. 8 and 10.

Up Next:
The Bulldogs will return to Kirksville for their final regular season home match on Wednesday, Oct. 30, when Truman hosts nationally-ranked Quincy at 12:00 pm. The Lady Hawks enter the weekend one game ahead of Truman in the GLVC standings at 10-0-2 (12-0-3 overall).
