KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - Trisha Shoemaker scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season, and freshman Alexis Heffernan converted her first collegiate goal for insurance as the Truman women's soccer team downed Missouri Southern 2-0 on Friday afternoon.

Shoemaker (Pleasant Valley, Iowa) got the 'Dogs (7-2, 4-1 MIAA) on the board in the eighth minute, taking a through ball by freshman Jessica Hanson (Wildwood, Mo.) and blasting it to the right of MSSU keeper Abby Risner for a quick 1-0 Truman lead. The teams would play at that score for 60 more minutes before Heffernan (Ankeny, Iowa) took an Olivia Hayes (Clayton, Mo.) corner kick that was tapped on by Lauren Seawright and found pay-dirt for a 2-0 edge.

Truman outshot the Lions (2-6-1, 2-3 MIAA) 19-10 on the afternoon and held a 9-2 edge in shots on goal. Emily Bozdeck (St. Louis, Mo.) made two saves in net for the purple and white and lowered her goals-against average to 0.66.

The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday against Central Missouri at home at noon. The match will not count towards the MIAA standings.
