KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - The Truman men's soccer team looks to build upon its recent success with a pair of MIAA road matches this week, as the Bulldogs travel to Lindenwood on Thursday night at 7:30 pm before visiting Southwest Baptist on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm.

The Bulldogs – winners of three straight overall – opened conference play last week with a 2-1 road win at Upper Iowa. Truman (3-2, 1-0 MIAA) sits atop the MIAA in a four-way tie with No. 15 Fort Hays State, No. 20 Northeastern State and Lindenwood – all whom are also 1-0 through the first night of MIAA competition last Thursday.

After being shut out in its 2012 opener against now- No. 9 Quincy, the Bulldogs have gone on a scoring tear, averaging 3.00 goals per game and posting a 3-1 mark in their last four matches. Truman is 2-1 on the road this season, which will continue to change with the squad spending the rest of September (four matches) away from Kirksville.

Andy Chapman, this week's MIAA Athlete of the Week for men's soccer, scored both goals in Truman's 2-1 win at UIU last Friday. He took passes from Charlie Backus both times to help the Bulldogs take a 2-0 lead through the first 59 minutes of play. He also came up just shy of a hat trick, narrowly missing in the 81st minute on back-to-back saves by the Peacock keeper.

Nick Wallner earned the win in net, making two saves and allowing a goal in his 69 minutes of work against UIU before Drew Garrone closed the final 21 minutes, making one save.

Duke Cochran is in his eighth season at the helm of the Bulldog men's soccer program and has a career record of 74-47-11 (.602).  His full bio is available either online at TrumanBulldogs.com or in the full PDF weekly notes.

Quick Look Around the League:
Four teams sit at 1-0 through the first week of MIAA play, and all four will match up on Thursday night in a key evening of league action. Truman visits Lindenwood (4-1-1, 1-0) while Northeastern State (4-1, 1-0) travels to Fort Hays State (5-1, 1-0) in a battle of nationally-ranked programs.

Harding (2-3, 0-1), Southwest Baptist (1-4, 0-1), Upper Iowa (1-4, 0-1) and Southern Nazarene (0-7, 0-1) all started the conference season with losses last Thursday, although at least two teams will get on the board this Thursday when UIU visits SBU and HU travels to SNU.

The eight MIAA teams are joined by Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) (4-4) to comprise the NCAA Div. II Central region, with the top two teams at the end of the season qualifying for the NCAA tournament.

Score First, Lead Early, Convert Often, Allow Few:
The Bulldogs have followed the script to a 'T' this season, in regards to whether the team has set itself up for a win or loss. Truman is 3-0 when scoring first, 3-0 when leading at the half, 3-1 when scoring at least two goals, and 3-0 when allowing fewer than two goals.

Bulldogs Riding League's Longest Winning Streak:
In MIAA-only contests, Truman currently has the longest winning streak of four, dating back to the conclusion of the 1998 season and start of 2012. The Bulldogs closed the 1998 conference slate with wins against Lincoln (6-0), Missouri Southern (3-1) and Southwest Baptist (7-0) and finished second in the league behind Missouri S&T (then Missouri-Rolla).

Checking Out the Competition:
Lindenwood “Lions” (4-1-1, 1-0 MIAA)
Lindenwood is off to a fast start in 2012 and are winners of four straight entering Thursday night's contest. The Lions defeated SBU 3-2 last Friday and Ouachita Baptist 1-0 on Sunday to help push its home record to 3-0 on the season. LU also competed at the Quincy Bowl to open the season, drawing 0-0 with Missouri S&T and falling 2-1 to Quincy in double OT.

The Lions have scored 11 goals in six matches, led by Azeem Razwan's three goals on 10 shots. Both Andre Hayne and Alfredo Paez have a pair of goals, as the Lions have just three assists on their 11 goals scored. Fermin Hughes has all but 17 of the season's total minutes in net, posting a 0.80 goals-against average and two shutouts.

Truman and Lindenwood will be meeting for the ninth time when they connect on Thursday, with LU holding a 5-3 all-time lead. The Lions won a pair last season, including a 1-0 OT win at home on Sept. 14.

Carl Hutter is in his 19th season at the helm of the Lindenwood men's soccer program, having compiled a record of 265-109-24. He is in his 30th season as a collegiate head coach.

Southwest Baptist “Bearcats” (1-4, 0-1 MIAA)
SBU returned to the pitch for its first season in more than a decade in 2012 and has gotten out to a 1-4 start through its first five matches. The Bearcats won their opener against Delta State but then have dropped four straight since, most recently a 3-2 setback at home against Lindenwood to open league action.

The Bearcats have scored seven goals in five matches while having given up 24. Karl Dupont is the team's top point producer, having scored three goals and added two assists with nine total shots. Austin Haywood has played all 450 minutes in net, posting a 4.80 GAA and a 60.7% save percentage.

Truman and Southwest Baptist met nine times previously, with the Bulldogs leading the all-time series 9-0.  The teams haven't met since the 2001 season.

Chris Dinwiddie is in his first season as a collegiate head coach.

Up Next:
The Bulldogs remain on the road for the final weekend of the season, traveling to 20th-ranked Northeastern State on Friday, Sept. 28 before visiting Harding on Sunday, Sept. 30.
