KIRKSVILLE - - Tyler Anderson scored 14 points, Seth Jackson added 12, and Mike Carlson recorded a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double, but the Truman men's basketball team couldn't recover from a slow start in a 70-56 home loss on Saturday afternoon.

MSSU (6-3, 1-0 MIAA) used a 13-2 run in the first five minutes of the contest to gain early momentum, and despite some intermittent threats by the Bulldogs (3-4, 1-1 MIAA) in both halves, the Lions never relinquished the lead and dealt Truman its first MIAA loss of the season.

Trailing 58-40 with 10:30 to play, the Bulldogs mounted their final comeback attempt by rattling off a 13-2 run to pull to within 60-53 at the 7:02 mark. However, the 'Dogs would then go nearly four and a half minutes without a point, as the Lions built a 66-53 edge before a Tom Norton free throw with 2:42 left on the clock. Southern then matched the Bulldogs to the horn to pick up the 14-point victory.

Anderson's 14 points and three rebounds came in 27 minutes of action, with Carlson logging his first double-double of the season to go with a pair of blocks and steals. Jackson's 12 points and six rebounds were also done in 27 minutes of action, with Truman's other seven players combining for 20 points offensively. The 'Dogs shot 34% for the game (18-of-53), including 3-of-13 (23%) from distance, and kept it close behind solid free throw shooting (17-of-21; 81%).

MSSU was led by Marquis Addison's 22 points (11-16 FTs), and a 13-point, 12-rebound double-double for Jordan Talbert. The Lions shot 42% overall (25-of-59), 4-of-14 (29%) from three, and 16-of-23 (70%) from the charity stripe. MSSU out-rebounded Truman by just two, 37-35.

The Bulldogs take the next week off from competition for focus on finals before returning to action on Tuesday, Dec. 18 in the Quincy Holiday Classic. Truman faces the host Hawks for the second time this season in the semifinals, tipping off at 7:30 on the QU campus.
