Gorillas Dominate Glass to Down 'Dogs

PITTSBURG, Kan. - - Sophomore Isaac Gardner led all Bulldogs with 16 points, while freshman Seth Jackson added 12, but the Truman men's basketball team struggled to keep the host Pitt State Gorillas off the glass in a 73-56 defeat on Wednesday night.
 
PSU (12-7, 8-4 MIAA) out-rebounded Truman 46-23 overall and 20-10 on the offensive glass to pick up the 17-point victory in John Lance Arena. The Bulldogs (5-14, 3-9 MIAA) trailed by just three at the half, but Pitt opened the second half on a 16-2 run to widen its lead to 44-27 with 15:06 to play.
 
Truman would claw to within six at the 9:54 mark, but the Gorillas grabbed five offensive rebounds in the next three minutes en route to expanding the lead back to double-figures.
 
Gardner came off the bench to hit four triples on his way to a team-high 16 points, with Jackson reaching double-figures for the seventh straight game with 12 points and three assists. Tom Norton added nine points on three triples, and EJ Hicks dished out a game-high five assists.
 
Rico Pierrevilius led all players with 18 points off the PSU bench, with Andra Bailey adding eight points and 14 rebounds out of the starting lineup.
 
Truman returns to action this Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm in Pershing Arena to face Emporia State. The Bulldogs will be looking to avenge a 60-59 buzzer-beater loss in Emporia, Kan., on Dec. 17.
