Game Preview:

The Truman women's basketball team returns to Jason Gym for an MIAA game for the first time since Feb. 20, 1999 and will be looking to clinch a spot in the MIAA postseason tournament when they play Lincoln University on Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs will clinch their spot in the conference tournament with a victory and a loss by Fort Hays State on the road at Pittsburg State or on Saturday at Emporia State. Truman last went to the tournament in March of 2008 and only one current player, senior Malorie Kiecker, has experience playing in Kansas City's Municipal Auditorium.

The team had a chance to clinch their spot on Saturday night but fell 68-48 on the road to Missouri Western State University. However the loss to the Griffons has limited the Bulldogs to either the seventh or eighth seed as Missouri Western holds the tie break over the Bulldogs by virtue of the season sweep.

This is the final game of the rigorous four-game road trip that began last Monday at Washburn University. Truman has dropped all three games on the swing and their last five road games in conference play. The Bulldogs have not lost more than three straight this season.

The Blue Tigers have had their share of loosing streaks this year as they had a 16-game winless streak and are currently on a six-game slide. Lincoln has picked up their only two wins of the season at Jason Gym. They defeated Rockhurst University in the season opener 59-57 and Nebraska-Omaha on Jan. 29 by a score of 73-58.

Lincoln scored 78 points in their two losses last week to Missouri Western and Emporia State. The Blue Tigers were held to 34 in the loss to the Griffons, with 13 coming in the second half and 44 in a 40-point loss to the defending national champ, Lady Hornets.

It was the Bulldogs that had to rally against the Blue Tigers in the first meeting in Kirksville on Jan. 15th. Truman made just three of their first 29 shots from the field and trailed by 13 points before a group from the bench dug the team out of the big hole. Malorie Kiecker, Jenny Dorman, Bianca Szafarowicz, Kaitlin Stump and Kayla Klopfenstein finished the first half making five of their final six shots, including four three-pointers to close that halftime deficit down to 21-20. Truman went on a 12-0 run to take the lead for good with 5:39 and were led by Breanna Daniel's 10 points. Lincoln's Vivian Essuon scored 19 points for the Blue Tigers.

Last Games (Truman):

Truman led by four late in the first half but the Griffons scored the final five points of the period including three-pointer with two seconds left to take a lead they would not relinquish. Missouri Western then opened the second half by grabbing four offensive rebounds and scoring seven, second-chance points to build up a nine-point lead. The biggest play in the game may have been Truman's three offensive boards on one possession but could not score followed by a basket by Kallie Schoonover to make it 39-30.

Another 9-0 burst put the margin into double figures and the Bulldogs could not recover in the 68-48 loss to the Griffons. Jennifer Conway (14 points), Becka McHenry (11 points) and Breanna Daniels (10 points) led Truman while Lauren Nolke scored a game-high 19 for the Griffons.

Last Games (Lincoln):

All five Blue Tiger players played the entire 40 minutes in their 84-44 loss to Emporia State on Saturday afternoon.  The Lady Hornets scored 18 of the games first 20 points, led by 17 at half and grabbed 20 more rebounds. Vivian Essuon and Quenita Washington each scored 11 for the Blue Tigers while Alli Volkens had 16 for Emporia State.

A Look At the Playoff Picture:

The following is a breakdown of the four teams looking for the final three spots for the MIAA postseason tournament in Kansas City.

Truman (9-11 Record; 1 Road, 1 Home) are holding on to the eighth spot by virtue of their season-sweep over Fort Hays State (9-11). They are one game back of Central Missouri for seventh place and two back of Missouri Western for sixth.

Truman can finish either seventh, eighth or ninth depending on the following variables. They can finish seven with wins in both remaining games. They will finish eighth with a win on Wednesday, a loss on Saturday and a loss by Fort Hays State in either of their final two. They will finish out of the postseason with losses in both games and a win in either remaining game by Fort Hays State.
