Northwest Tops Truman in Maryville

MARYVILLE, Mo. - - The Northwest Missouri men's basketball team jumped out to a 21-2 lead and led wire-to-wire in an 89-46 defeat of Truman on Wednesday night in Bearcat Arena. Senior guard Alex Henderson scored 11 points and pulled down a team-high six rebounds for the Bulldogs.

 

The Bulldogs (6-17, 4-15 MIAA) fell behind 8-0 before freshman Pat Sodemann (St. Louis, Mo., Parkway West) got Truman on the board with a jumper at the 17:56 mark of the first half. However, from there, Northwest went on a 13-0 run and pushed the lead to 50-21 at the half behind a blistering 63% from the field.

 

Following Henderson (Willard, Mo., Willard)'s 11 points, four other Bulldogs scored six apiece, including senior Ethan Freeman (Urbandale, Iowa, Urbandale) who grabbed four rebounds. For the game, the 'Dogs shot 31% but were just 2-of-15 from three-point range after entering the game as the league's fourth-best long-range unit.

 

DeShaun Cooper led Northwest Missouri State (9-14, 7-12 MIAA) with 21 points – 17 of which came in the first half.

 

Truman returns to action this Saturday night with a trip to St. Joseph, Mo., and a 7:30 pm showdown with Missouri Western.
