(KIRKSVILLE, Mo.) – Freshman Suzanne Pelley notched her first collegiate goal, and the Truman defense continued its flawless start to MIAA play, as the Truman women's soccer squad defeated Emporia State, 1-0, on a windy day at the Truman Soccer Park.

Pelley's goal hit the underside of the crossbar and dropped in from 22-yards out during the 71st minute, as the Bulldogs (5-1-1, 4-0-1 MIAA) picked up their fourth 1-0 victory of the MIAA season in five matches. Pelley was set up by sophomore Kelsey Twellman, the MIAA's assist leader with four through seven games.

It was all Truman throughout the match as a strong wind blew across the field, with the Bulldogs out-shooting ESU 23-5 overall and 7-1 on net. In addition, Truman applied nearly all of the pressure in the second half by rocketing 15 attempts to just one for the Hornets (0-5-1, 0-4 MIAA).

Junior Jayne Grisham pushed the Truman team shutout streak to five games (all MIAA affairs) by stopping just one Hornet attempt on goal. She also lowered her season-long goals-against average to 0.60 and posted her fourth individual shutout – best in the MIAA.

The Bulldogs are idle this weekend and will return to the pitch next Thursday (Sept. 30) evening at Washburn (Kan.) in a 6 pm start from Topeka before traveling to fellow MIAA-unbeaten Central Missouri next Saturday (Oct. 2) afternoon.
