Communication Student Organizations

Truman has a number of student organizations that are popular with students interested in studying communication.

Forensics Team

The Truman Forensics Team has a long and successful history in collegiate Lincoln-Douglas debate (NFA-LD) and individual events (IE) competition. Students on the team have the opportunity to work with national award-winning and knowledgeable forensics coaches and educators to construct, perform, and deliver compelling argumentation and oral presentations across the United States. The team is open to students at all levels of public speaking.

Lambda Pi Eta

Lambda Pi Eta is a national communication honor society to recognize, foster and reward outstanding scholastic achievement, to stimulate interest in the field of communication studies, to promote and encourage professional development, and to establish and maintain closer relationships and mutual understanding between faculty and students. Membership is open to any Truman student who has completed 45 semester hours of undergraduate work, has a 3.0 cumulative GPA and has completed nine semester hours in communication with a GPA of 3.25 in those courses.

Advertising and PR Organization

This organization offers hands-on experience with on-campus and off-campus clients. The organizations bring guest speakers speakers to campus so students can get professional insights into the fields of public relations, advertising, marketing, and organizational communication.

Ad and PR club is affiliated with the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), a professional network of over 15,500 business communication professionals in over 80 countries.
