Radios, Television, and Bossa Nova. American jazz (1920s bebop + Cuban influences (clave rhythms, habanera rhythm equals Afro-Cuban jazz (aka Cubop). American jazz (1960s) + Brazilian influences (bossa nova, samba) does not equal Bossa nova, almost equal to Afro-Brazilian jazz (aka jazz samba) Literal translation: Look at such a pretty, graceful thing, it's her, that girl, who comes and passes with a sweet swing, walking toward the ocean. Official translation: Tall and tan and young and lovely, the girl from Ipanema goes walking and when she passes, each one she passes goes Ah. Faculty research mentor: Dr. Marc Rice.
