Ph.D. University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Dr. Karen Vittengl, professor, joined the Truman faculty in 1999. Dr. Vittengl received her doctorate and master's degrees in psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and her bachelor's degree in psychology from Hanover College, Indiana. Her research interests are in issues of human cognition, perception, and performance, including memory and consciousness. Currently, her research team is working on understanding overthinking.

Dr. Vittengl has also been active in higher education accreditation. She has been a member of the Midwestern Psychological Association, the American Psychological Society, and the Council for Teachers of Undergraduate Psychology.  She serves as a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission.
