Jocelyn A. Stevens is Associate Professor of Music Education and serves as chair of the Education Department. She has taught Conducting, Research in Music, Music Management of Instruction, Foundations of Education, Hip-Hop Perspectives in Music, Music Psychology, and more. She currently teaches music education coursework, supervises intern teachers, serves as the faculty advisor for the Truman State collegiate chapter of the National Association for Music Education, as well as the Mens and Womens Club Soccer teams, and enjoys be a part of a vibrant academic community.

Dr. Stevens has enjoyed rich and varied preK-12 teaching experiences prior to coming to Truman. She taught for four years at University High School of Indiana, a private, non-sectarian high school in Indianapolis, IN, where she was a founding faculty member. At University High School she taught instrumental and vocal performing ensembles, music theory, and was the music director for the school musicals. She taught public middle school and high school band and general music for three years in Wayzata, Minnesota, where she also taught middle school jazz bands and jazz combos and served as the musical director for middle school musicals. In Kirksville, she has taught preschool music at the Kirksville Childhood Development Center and is involved in directing and performing in community and youth musical theatre productions. She also coaches and serves on the board of directors for the local soccer club, the Northern Missouri Futbol Club (NMFC).

Dr. Stevens enjoys research related to a variety of topics including pre-service music teacher education, mentoring, music curriculum, popular music, and rural music education. She maintains professional memberships in the Society for Music Teacher Education, Association for Popular Music Education, National Association for Music Education, and International Society for Music Education, among others. She is on the editorial board of the Missouri Journal of Research in Music Education.
