Amanda Turnbull has been a board certified music therapist (MT-BC) since 2012 and has worked clinically in various locations and populations within the Midwest. She worked as the first music therapist hired in the expressive therapies department in a community mental health facility where she designed psychosocial groups and provided individual services. Additionally, Professor Turnbull supervised University of Kansas student music therapists in clinical practica courses during her time working in mental health. She has diverse clinical experiences in providing music therapy in community and private practices, early intervention, special education and medical/oncology, and crisis and mental health.
Prior to her faculty role, she was the Advising Specialist for the Ronald E. McNair program at Truman for several years. As a first-generation college student herself, Professor Turnbull strives to support and advocate for students from various backgrounds. Currently at Truman State University, she serves as the director of music therapy and an instructor of music therapy courses. She aims to develop strong university and community partnerships through music therapy opportunities that serve both communities. She enjoys directing a local church choir in her spare time and also volunteers on a local public library board.
