Why did you choose Truman?
I chose Truman because of its personality! From the first time I toured campus to right now, Truman never disappoints when it comes to people, activities, and excitement. While my tour sealed the deal, the personal relationships I developed before even coming to Truman are what really excited me. I have never doubted my decision because I know Truman is where I belong!
Why did you choose your major?
I chose Biology as my major before I chose Truman as my college. Biology has always been something I’ve been passionate about from my introductory biology class in freshman year of high school. Since then, every career I’ve thought about going into all needs a basic biological perspective. So even if I don’t know where I’m going, I know what I need, and that is my Biology degree.
Now that you are a student, what do you like most about being a Truman student?
Being a Truman student give you so much opportunity locally and abroad. It amazing how many connections I have made and how much experience and knowledge I have gained from the Truman community.
What piece of advice would you give to first-year students?
I always tell first year students that college is a time commitment, no matter how much time you may seem to have. In high school, you went to school 40 hours a week and had around 10 hours of homework time. At college, you’re in class 10 hours of the week and so you have to compensate with more homework time. I’m definitely not telling you to do 40 hours of homework, but likely more than ten.
What is your best or favorite experience of your first year at Truman?
The best experience I had my freshman year was likely my first time experiencing Puppies on the Quad! My best friend, Madison, and I went to the quad and were able to rent the cutest little guy. He was so tired when we got there, but him just laying on us was the best. It was so great for an animal deprived college student.
What is your favorite thing about living in Kirksville?
My favorite thing about living in Kirksville is the weekends on campus. It’s not a hustle and bustle class day, but rather a leisure lounging on the quad day, which is so nice. Also, now that it’s getting warmer out, more of the trees are blooming and its really pretty to just walk around campus.
