Why did you choose Truman?
I loved Truman’s devotion to academics right away, but my campus visit solidified my decision to attend. It seemed like such a welcoming community and I felt at home as soon as I walked on campus!
Why did you choose your major?
I have always been interested in people and I knew I wanted to spend my career working with people. I also wanted to be able to make a difference in people’s lives. When I thought about what area of study would allow me to learn about, work with, and help people, psychology seemed like the perfect fit!
Now that you are a student, what do you like most about being a Truman student?
I love being part of the Truman community! I genuinely feel that the faculty, staff, and administration care about this school and about my success. There is a great sense of connection among the students, as well, and I have made some great friendships and relationships with people here!
What piece of advice would you give to first-year students?
I would advise students to get involved! Try out different organizations, talk to people in your hall, and get to know your professors. The connections you make will help you establish your place at Truman and make every other aspect more enjoyable! Just make sure not to take on more than you can handle.
What is your best or favorite experience of your first year at Truman?
My favorite experience during my first year was meeting one of my best friends during my first week at Truman! We met in a class that very first week and have been having lunch together multiples times a week every semester since then!
What is your favorite thing about living in Kirksville?
I enjoy the small town atmosphere and all the unique things Kirksville has to offer. Kirksville does have things to do, but also doesn’t distract me from my schoolwork or compete much with all the awesome events happening on campus!
