Why did you choose Truman?
I chose Truman because when I arrived on campus, it felt like it was where I was supposed to be! The campus, the professors, the programs, and the opportunities I discovered during my visit to Truman made me realize this was the school that’ll help me reach my goals!
Why did you choose your major?
I chose Exercise Science because I’m pursuing physical therapy and I felt like it was the best program to prepare me for graduate school. With my major, I’m able to work on research projects and apply the concepts I’m learning about exercise physiology and motor learning to real life scenarios! I also like how ES does a lot with human movement, the science behind it, and everything associated with it.
Now that you are a student, what do you like most about being a Truman student?
As a Truman student, I love all the opportunities and resources available for us to utilize; from study abroad to research to the free tutoring to the yoga classes and to the hundreds of different organizations you get to interact with. It’s like having everything at your fingertips if you choose to pursue it and that’s pretty cool!
What piece of advice would you give to first-year students?
I would tell first-year students to not be afraid to venture outside of your comfort zone and try something new or crazy that you never thought you would do! My first semester at Truman, my friends dragged me to a swing dance lesson which terrified me because to this day, I don’t have a single clue how to dance, let alone swing while doing it. That experience ended up being one of my favorites my first year at Truman and I actually had a lot of fun!
What is your best or favorite experience of your first year at Truman?
It is honestly the hardest thing in the world to pick a favorite experience from my first year at Truman! I did so many different things and had so many new experiences my first year! In the first semester alone, I have memories from Truman Week when MO Hall won the College Cup to the Bowling for Soup and Time Flies concert to swing dancing and to receiving second place in the one and only pageant I’ve ever done… All on Truman’s campus! I loved all of the plays and orchestra concerts I went to in complete awe at how talented everyone was! Another favorite memory has to be from the many heart attacks I’ve gotten while walking when a squirrel jumped out of the bushes. You see, I really can’t pick a favorite or best experience, but I do have unforgettable memories that I can talk your ear off about!
What is your favorite thing about living in Kirksville?
One of my favorite things about living in Kirksville is that everything is so close! I’m an off campus student and there are mornings where I think I’m running so late and then I end up being one of the first ones there! Another thing I love about Kirksville is the many hidden treasures and traditions that you discover over time that you need to do before you graduate! I actually have a bucket list of everything I’ve learned about through this last year and I was finally able to cross off going to Train Bridge!
