The plan listed below is designed to provide suggestions for sequencing your major courses, but there are also other ways to sequence most majors. This plan is meant to provide aid in early, provisional planning. Please consult with your academic advisor to make strategic academic decisions about which courses to take each semester.

Sample Two Year Plan: Sociology/Anthropology (BA/BS)

The following plan is possible on the presumption that an incoming student has an Associate of Arts (AA) degree prior to enrolling at Truman State University.

FALL - Semester 1

- SOAN 130: New Majors Seminar in Sociology/Anthropology (1 cr)
- SOAN 190: Sociological Inquiry OR SOAN 191: Introduction to Anthropology* (3 cr)

NOTES:

  • (*) - Students in the Sociology/Anthropology choose either "Option 1: Anthropology" or "Option 2: Sociology." Each Option has 4 levels of courses and a capstone requirement. See academic program page in the University Catalog for more information.
  • (**) - The content of STAT 190: Basic Statistics is an important prerequisite/co-requisite for SOAN 381. Students who haven’t completed a basic statistics course should plan to take one by Semester 3.
  • Any Minor can pair with the SOAN major. Suggested minors to pair with this 2-year plan are:
    • History,
    • Psychology,
    • Biology, or
    • Political Science
  • WE = Writing Enhanced course
  • The Dialogues curriculum requires a certain number of courses/credit hours in the following Perspectives: Social, Arts and Humanities, STEM, Communications, and Statistics. The exact number of courses a student will be required to take during their undergraduate career varies individually according to the credit transferred in.
