The plan listed below is designed to provide suggestions for sequencing your major courses, but there are also other ways to sequence most majors. This plan is meant to provide aid in early, provisional planning. Please consult with your academic advisor to make strategic academic decisions about which courses to take each semester.

Sample Two Year Plan: Mathematics (BA/BS)

The following plan is possible on the presumption that an incoming student has an Associate of Arts (AA) degree and has completed the equivalent to the following courses prior to enrolling at Truman State University. This plan assumes the student is entering with no dual enrollment, transfer credits, or other credits.

  • MATH 186 (Precalculus)
  • STAT 190 (Basic Statistics)
  • MATH 198 (Calculus I)
  • MATH 263 (Calculus II)
  • MATH 264 (Calculus III)
  • CS 170 (Intro to Computer Science)
  • CHEM 130 (Chemistry) or PHYS 185 (Physics)^

FALL - Semester 1

- MATH 200: WE/Foundations of Mathematics (3 cr)
- MATH 357: Linear Algebra (3 cr)
- STAT 290: Statistics (3 cr) OR STAT 370: Probability (3 cr)
- Bachelor of Science or Arts Required Support course (as needed)

SPRING - Semester 2

- MATH 398: Junior Seminar in Mathematics (1 cr)
- Elective Mathematics course (from List A or B)* (3 cr)
- Elective Mathematics course (from List A or B)* (3 cr)

SPRING - Semester 4

  • (^) - Math majors are required to take either CHEM 130 or PHYS 185 as required support.
  • (*) - Math majors are required to complete 15 credits worth of Elective Mathematics courses. Review the Mathematics program page on catalog.truman.org for a complete course list.
  • WE = Writing Enhanced course
  • The Dialogues Curriculum requires a certain number of courses/credit hours in the following Perspectives: Social, Arts and Humanities, STEM, Communications, and Statistics. The exact number of courses a student will be required to take during their undergraduate career varies individually according to the credit transferred in.
