The plan listed below is designed to provide suggestions for sequencing your major courses, but there are also other ways to sequence most majors. This plan is meant to provide aid in early, provisional planning. Please consult with your academic advisor to make strategic academic decisions about which courses to take each semester.
Sample Two Year Plan: History (BA/BS)
What follows is a sample schedule for Transfer students. The following plan is possible on the presumption that an incoming student has an Associate of Arts (AA) degree prior to enrolling at Truman State University. This will enable you to finish your History major in two years.
This plan presumes that you are bringing in no credit hours that count toward the History major, since lower-level courses taught through AP, IB, and at community colleges generally do not count for the History major. If you have taken courses that qualify as “upper-division” History courses, the credit earned will count toward the major.
FALL - Semester 1
- HIST 2011: WE/ World History I: From the Dawn of Humanity to ca. 1300 CE (4 cr)
- HIST 3XXX: WE/_____ (4 cr)

SPRING - Semester 2
- HIST 2012: WE/ World History II: From ca. 1200 CE to the Present (4 cr)
- HIST 3103: WE/ Historiography of the United States (4 cr)
- HIST 3XXX: WE/_____ (4 cr)

FALL - Semester 3

- HIST 3XXX: WE/_____ (4 cr)
SPRING - Semester 4
- HIST 4999: WE/Capstone: Senior Seminar in History
- HIST 3XXX: WE/_____ (4 cr)
- Optional: HIST 4997: WE/Theories of History (4 cr) (REQ for Honors) OR HIST 600G: Topics in World History (1-4 cr) (REQ for MAE)
NOTES:
- WE = Writing Enhanced
- This schedule does not indicate any study abroad or internship credit, but those credits can also count toward completion of the History major.
- If you take any HIST 3XXX electives in summer or interim semesters this will reduce the number of upper-level History courses needed during regular fall and spring academic semesters.
- The Dialogues curriculum requires a certain number of courses/credit hours in the following Perspectives: Social, Arts and Humanities, STEM, Communications, and Statistics. The exact number of courses a student will be required to take during their undergraduate career varies individually according to the credit transferred in.
Department Chair: Please contact the Center for Academic Excellence (advise@truman.edu) with any updates to the plan above.
