The plan listed below is designed to provide suggestions for sequencing your major courses, but there are also other ways to sequence most majors. This plan is meant to provide aid in early, provisional planning. Please consult with your academic advisor to make strategic academic decisions about which courses to take each semester.
Sample Plan: Gifted Education (MA)
The Gifted Education (MA) program offers summer and fall entry terms. A total of 30 credit hours is required to graduate from the program, divided into "Core Requirements" (24 cr) and the "Electives" (6 cr). All students are required to complete ED 619G: Teaching Internship-Gifted Education. This plan was made under the assumption that a student is beginning coursework in the Fall semester and plans to pursue courses full-time.
While the below sample plans provides an approximate timeline to graduation, each accepted student should work with the Gifted Education Program Director, Jeanne Harding (jharding@truman.edu), to ensure they receive credit for prior graduate coursework.
FALL - Semester 1
1st Block:
- ED 550G: Introduction to Gifted and Talented (3 cr)
- ED 651G: Curriculum for Gifted (3 cr)
2nd Block:
- ED 604G: Professional Learning - Policy, Practice, and Research (3 cr) OR other Elective options*
SPRING - Semester 2
Full Semester:
- ED 605G: Psychology of Exceptional Children (3 cr)**
SUMMER - Semester 3
Summer Session 1:
- ED 652G: Meeting the Affective Needs of Gifted (3 cr)
- ED 626G: Creativity (3 cr) OR other Elective options*
Summer Session 2:
- ED 650G: Identification of Gifted (3 cr)
- ED 653G: Programming Planning and Development - Administration and Supervision of Gifted Programs (3 cr)
FALL - Semester 4
Full Semester:
- ED 619G: Teaching Internship - Gifted Education (3 cr)
- ED 633G: Research in Gifted Education (3 cr)**

- 1st and 2nd Block courses are 8-weeks. Full-semester courses are 16-weeks.
