The plan listed below is designed to provide suggestions for sequencing your major courses, but there are also other ways to sequence most majors. This plan is meant to provide aid in early, provisional planning. Please consult with your academic advisor to make strategic academic decisions about which courses to take each semester.
Sample Two Year Plan: Creating Writing (BFA)
The following plan is possible on the presumption that an incoming student has an Associate of Arts (AA) degree prior to enrolling at Truman State University.
FALL - Semester 1
CRWT 204: WE/Creative Writing (3 cr)
CRWT 355: Introduction to Literary Genres: Poetry (4 cr)
One “Literature and Theory” course (3-4 cr)
SPRING - Semester 2
- Second Literary Genre class: CRWT 356: Intro to Literary Genres: The Novel (4 cr) OR CRWT 357: Intro to Literary Genres: The Short Story (4 cr) OR CRWT 358: Intro to Literary Genres: Nonfiction (4 cr) (see Catalog for more options)
- One “Literature and Theory” course (3-4 cr)
- One “Writing Workshop” course (3-4 cr)
- Optional: ENG 280: Film Form and Sense (3 cr) (pre-req for CRWT 411: WE/ Writing Workshop: Screenwriting*)
FALL - Semester 3
- One “Literature and Theory” course
- JINS 3XX: WE/Junior Interdisciplinary Seminar (or spring)
- Two “Writing Workshop” courses
SPRING - Semester 4
- CRWT 498: WE/Creative Writing Senior Capstone (4 cr)
- JINS 3XX: WE/Junior Interdisciplinary Seminar (3 cr) (if not taken in Fall Semester 3)
- At least one credit of "Applications" courses (1-4 cr)
- One “Writing Workshop” (see catalog) OR CRWT 501/504 (can count as one of the 3 required writing workshops)
NOTES:
- (*) Please note that if you intend to take CRWT 411: WE/Writing Workshop: Screenwriting, it is best to take this workshop last and you also must have taken ENG 280: Film Form and Sense.
- ENG 280: Film Form and Sense is a pre-req for CRWT 411: WE/Writing Workshop: Screenwriting and is required for the Film Studies minor.
- WE = Writing Enhanced course
- The following classes must be taken before graduation, but may be taken in any combination after or concurrently with CRWT 204: WE/Creative Writing;
