The plan listed below is designed to provide suggestions for sequencing your major courses, but there are also other ways to sequence most majors. This plan is meant to provide aid in early, provisional planning. Please consult with your academic advisor to make strategic academic decisions about which courses to take each semester.

Sample Two Year Plan: Communication Disorders (BA/BS), Non-Clinical Track

This plan assumes a non-clinical track with CMDS 489: WE/Capstone in Communication Disorders, only available in Spring. The following plan is possible on the presumption that an incoming student has an Associate of Arts (AA) degree prior to enrolling at Truman State University.

FALL - Semester 1

SPRING - Semester 2

- CMDS 261: Phonetics (3 cr)
- CMDS 101: Clinical Observation I (1 cr)
- CMDS 460: Language Development (3 cr)

FALL - Semester 3

- CMDS 301: Clinical Observation II (1 cr)
- CMDS 470: The Speech Mechanism (3 cr)
- CMDS 472: Audiology (3 cr)
- JINS 3XX: WE/Junior Interdisciplinary Seminar (3 cr)

SPRING - Semester 4

- CMDS 380: Principles of Clinical Management (3 cr) #
- CMDS 477: Articulation and Phonology (3 cr)
- CMDS 473: Aural Rehabilitation (3 cr)
- CMDS 550: Counseling in Communication Disorders (3 cr)*

FALL - Semester 5

NOTES:

  • Application is required for MEX 510: Communication Disorders Experience in Mexico (3cr). GPA of at least 3.0 is required.
  • * : CMDS 550: Counseling in Communication Disorders must be taken before or during the same semester as CMDS 380.
  • **: CMDS 480 OR 489 is required for graduation. Both 480 and 489 are Writing Enhanced.
  • CMDS 480 requires a 3.00 GPA in major and overall.
  • CMDS 475 Sign Language is an elective when available; CMDS 520 also elective.
  • %: Taking grad course for undergrad or grad credit may enhance your application for grad school and/or shorten your grad program.
