Arlen Egley, Jr., assistant professor, holds a bachelor's degree from Truman and his master's and Ph.D. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.  For nearly 15 years, Dr. Egley served as administrator and lead analyst for the annual National Youth Gang Survey, conducted by the National Gang Center.  He is the co-editor of The Modern Gang Reader (Oxford University Press) and has authored or coauthored numerous publications pertaining to gangs, including academic journal articles and book chapters as well as U.S. Department of Justice bulletins and reports.  He is a member of the American Society of Criminology and the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences.  Prior to attending graduate school, Dr. Egley was a deputy juvenile officer for the Second Judicial Circuit of Missouri.
