In this talk, I will give an overview of the activities and projects of my research group at Missouri S&T in computational aerothermodynamics. After a brief introduction to hypersonic flows and vehicles, I will present our research on the simulation of hypersonic, chemically reacting, non-equilibrium flows focusing on planetary entry, which will include the analysis of hypersonic inflatable aerodynamic decelerator (HIAD) concept and radiative heat transfer under uncertainty originating from operating conditions and physical models used. Next, I will present our research on computational analysis and design of thermal protection systems for hypersonic cruise vehicles. I will conclude my talk with a brief description of our recent work on uncertainty quantification of hypersonic propulsion systems and multi-fidelity modeling and robust optimization of deployable re-entry technologies.
