La Tierra No Prometida, a new work for solo piano by Dr. Victor Marquez-Barrios, Assistant Professor of Music, that was commissioned by Dr. Hyejin Cho as a 21st-Century response to R. Schumann’s
Papillon, followed by a full performance of the piece. La Tierra No Prometida (The Not Promised Land) draws inspiration from different moments in the novel
Cien Años de Soledad (One Hundred Years of Solitude), by Colombian Nobel-prize winning author Gabriel García Márquez.
Over the 2nd half of the session, Dr. Jun-Hee Han will talk about understanding L.V. Beethoven’s musical language through contemporary paintings by J.M.W. Turner.
