Inclement Weather Information

Inclement Weather Plan – May 2019 Commencement Ceremony

The inclement weather site for Truman State University’s May 2019 Commencement Ceremony is Pershing Arena. We understand you have important people in your life attending the ceremony so Truman wants to provide the best opportunity for them to attend. If the University needs to enact the Inclement Weather Plan, we will hold two Commencement ceremonies due to the large number of graduates and the smaller seating capacity available in Pershing Arena.

If the University enacts the Inclement Weather Plan and moves Commencement indoors to Pershing Arena, here are the details for the two ceremonies:

MORNING COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY

All Bachelor of Science candidates attend this ceremony.

Pershing Arena

Ceremony at 10 a.m. (Doors open at 8:30 a.m./Degree candidates need to arrive at the Pershing Small Gym no later than 9 a.m. to line up—remember to bring your green reader card with you.)

Reception following in the HUB at the Student Union Building

AFTERNOON COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY

All Emeriti Faculty, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master’s Degree candidates and ROTC service members attend this ceremony.

Pershing Arena

Ceremony at 2:30 p.m. (Doors open at 1 p.m./Degree candidates need to arrive at Pershing Small Gym no later than 1:30 p.m. to line up—remember to bring your green reader card with you.)

Reception following in the HUB at the Student Union Building

TICKETS & SEATING

Even with two ceremonies, seating is constrained by the size of Pershing Arena, thus each graduate will receive 4 tickets. Tickets will be required, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. If you requested special seating for any family member with a disability, that seating will still be available for them.

BROADCAST OF CEREMONY

Whether Commencement is held at Stokes Stadium or in Pershing Arena, the ceremony (or ceremonies) will be live-streamed on the Truman website. Please be aware the weather can affect the audio and video signal quality of the graduation display on the campus TVs and the web stream.

A decision to move the ceremony indoors will be made no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, May 10. Each graduate will receive an email with notification that the Inclement Weather Plan has been implemented for Commencement. The information will also be placed on the University website homepage and TruView. Updates will also be posted to the Registrar’s Commencement webpage.
