Financial Aid Not Based on Parental Income

If expenses are not met by need-based aid, students may borrow additional funds through the Unsubsidized Direct Loan program. The results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid must be on file with the Truman Financial Aid Office to determine need-based eligibility before an application for the Unsubsidized Loan can be processed. Unlike the need-based Direct Loan, interest accrues while the student is attending school.  Loan maximums and other regulations are the same as the Subsidized Direct Loan; however, the total Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans cannot exceed the maximum allowed for each grade level.

Parents may borrow through the PLUS loan program.  PLUS loans are long-term loans with a variable interest rate. Parents may borrow funds up to the school’s cost of attendance, less other aid received.

For other loan options, contact the Financial Aid Office at (660) 785-4130 or by e-mail at finaid@truman.edu.
