Golden Alumni Diploma Ceremony

Details for Alumni Participating in the Golden Alumni Diploma Ceremony

Alumni graduating in 1968 or before (who have not previously participated) are encouraged to join us at Homecoming for Truman State University’s annual Bulldog Forever Banquet where you can participate in the Golden Alumni Diploma Ceremony (advance registration requested). University President Sue Thomas will present each individual participating in the ceremony with a commemorative diploma, courtesy of the Truman Alumni Association. In addition to the Golden Alumni Diploma Ceremony, the banquet will include recognition of other Homecoming honorees.

Date, Time & Location

The Bulldog Forever Banquet will be held Georgian Room in the Student Union Building on Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, at 6 p.m. Prior to the banquet, you are also invited to a reception starting at 5 p.m. in the Hub also located on the main level of the Student Union Building.

Event Tickets

First-time participants in the Golden Alumni Diploma Ceremony receive one complimentary banquet ticket. Family and friends may purchase additional banquet tickets ($20 for adults, $13 for children age 12 and under). Watch for more details about the tickets.

How the Diploma Ceremony Works

After dinner has been served at the Bulldog Forever Banquet, there will be an announcement requesting all Golden Alumni who are participating in the Diploma Ceremony to exit the Georgian Room and go across the hall to the Alumni Room which you will enter through the west end of the Hub (we will have staff directing you to the room).

In the Alumni Room, we will have a graduation robe and cap ready for you, but if you wish to bring your own hood from your advanced degrees, feel free to do so. If you prefer not to wear a robe, that is also acceptable. Once everyone has their cap and gown in place, the group will line up and head back to the Georgian Room through a side door to begin the Diploma Ceremony. When your name is called, you will walk across the front of the Georgian Room to be presented with your commemorative diploma by University President Sue Thomas. Please take time to pause for a photo by the University photographer who will take a photo of each person receiving their diploma. Once you receive your diploma, you can move the tassel on  your cap from the right to the left side. If you are unable to walk through the ceremony let us know, and we can deliver your diploma to you at your table.

After you are presented with your diploma, you will return to the Alumni Room to remove your cap and gown (remember to remove the tassel from your cap and take it with you as a keepsake), then you can return to your seat in the Georgian Room. We will have staff available to direct you through each step!

During Homecoming weekend, visitors do not need a guest pass or parking decal to park on campus.
