Truman’s forensic union (speech and debate team) brought home two tournament championships in debate and numerous other awards at the 21st annual Gorlok Gala, hosted by Webster University in St. Louis. In a field of 42 schools from 17 different states, Truman forensics had its best performance in the last five years. This marks the seventh year in a row Truman has been included in the top 10. Truman is the lone Missouri school to be included on the entire Master’s University list, which ranks 200 institutions.

The finals for this year’s Bulldog B.I.T.E. Pitch Competition will be streamed on Facebook live at 4 p.m. April 9. This year, 24 students or teams submitted projects for the first round of the competition. Judges reviewed and scored submissions and the top six entries were advanced to the finals. Finalists include: Mitchell Kronsbein, Esther Lee, Mackenzie Miller, Victor Wei, Brandon Winston and Logan Yardley.

Truman Communication Disorders graduate students won second place in a statewide “Quest for the Cup” trivia bowl. The competition was part of the Missouri Speech-Language-Hearing Association annual convention, which took place virtually this year. Nine programs total participated. Last year The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri donated nearly 905,000 pounds of food, more than 18,000 of which went to local schools through the Buddy Pack program. Researchers from Baylor University and the University of Northern Iowa used annual data released by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) to examine the data of 521 large and medium-sized accounting programs from 2019 and provided a top 40 for both categories, as well as overall. For this testing window, Truman ranked No. 1 overall with a CPA success index rating of 1.000.

Another proud moment as Truman was ranked No. 23 on Kiplinger’s recently released list of “100 Best Values in Public Colleges.” Truman was the top-ranked Missouri school and was the only school from the state to be listed in the top 75.

Truman won both portions of the Top Dog Challenge against the Greyhounds of the University of Indianapolis. Truman swept both categories with a total of 1,578 donors compared to 432 for UIndy, and $7,852 against $7,131 for the Greyhounds. All of the money raised by Truman will be split between The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri and the Adair County Humane Society.

The Truman chapter of the Society of Physics Students has earned an Outstanding Chapter Award from the SPS National Office. This is the second year in a row the chapter has been recognized for its excellence as a top-tier student-led physical sciences organization.

The forensic union placed third in the Lincoln-Douglas debate at the National Forensic Association Championship, hosted in the Santa Ana, California School District, and has once again proven to be a top debate school in the United States. Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams closed out the regular season with wins against Southwest Baptist, Feb. 27, and will now host GLVC tournament games March 3. In rankings recently released by Business First, the University comes in at No. 64 in the nation and No. 14 in the Midwest for schools that offer the best educational experiences to their students. The Mock Trial Team attended the Mid-Missouri Invitational hosted by Columbia College. The mock trial A-team had a record of 6-2 and placed fourth overall out of 26 teams, with their two losses being one point away from placing first and second. First-year students Emma Mitchem and Rowan Wilson ranked top in their rounds and won an Outstanding Attorney award and Outstanding Witness award, respectively.

More than 40 entries were submitted for this year’s Bulldog BITE pitch competition. Students submitted their concept or idea for a product, service or project in a video pitch. First round judges then reviewed and scored the video submissions and the top six scoring entries were advanced to the finals. Finalists include: Danny Alter, Allee Bernier, William Fries, Joseph Lomo-Mainoo, Mackenzie Matthews and Kailey Micek. The finals will take place at 4:00 Friday, April 12 in the Student Union

Softball player, Christa Reisinger, has been named to the Schutt Sports/NFCA DII Player of the Year Top 25 for the third-straight season. Reisinger was also awarded second team All-American and Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Division II Championship. Emma Walbert was named Freshman of the Year and third team.
