An hour’s drive from Brisbane, the university is Australia’s first and largest private university. November 05, 2016 via FacebookA wide variety of percussion instruments will highlight the annual Fall Percussion Sampler at 8:00 November 7 in Ophelia Parrish Performance Hall. The program will feature a wide selection of percussion music, from large-scale percussion orchestra to chamber works, performed on traditional percussion instruments as well as exotic instruments such as Sulawesian reed flute, Thailanese gongs, wooden spoons and toy trumpets. Pamela Melvin, an assistant professor of nursing, began her career at Truman in 2006. She teaches public health nursing, professional nursing leadership, and the summer clinical elective course. Rarely a year goes by without an on-campus proposal or a wedding in the Sunken Garden. During his sophomore year, David Crawford (’00) requested to take a sign language class. He spent his summers working at a camp for critically ill and disabled children, and learning sign language would allow him to assist those with hearing impairments. The trend shows no sign of slowing down as five other family members are currently enrolled. Sheila Garlock has been a presence in the Truman State University Communication Disorders Department for 20 years. The course aims to teach students how to prepare winning grant proposals to support projects in a variety of fields. For K-12 educators, PD 520/520G, Teaching Comics Across the Curriculum, introduces the use of sequential art narratives (such as comics and graphic novels) to support learning in visual arts, literature, social studies and STEM fields. Within 10 years, siblings John, Dan, and Colleen would follow, and the three older Warners would eventually find their spouses on campus. “It’s been a great experience for our kids,” Mary said. “They’ve learned and grown so much during their college years.
