      The Department of Public Safety is offering a free self-defense class this semester for students. The program combines a hands-on approach to learning effective techniques with information about crime prevention. The public relations intern will help with the production of the University’s online newsletter, the Truman Today, and biannual alumni magazine, the Truman Review.       Lou Ann Gilchrist, Joe Hamilton, and Brenda Higgins will lead an eight-hour certification program for Truman faculty and staff in Mental Health First Aid. The program will take place in two sessions from 12:30 to 5:00 p.m. on August 4th and 5th. This eight-hour program is designed to enable participants to effectively manage mental health crises in their workplace, home, school, church or the community. He has taught more than a dozen varieties of economics classes at Truman, and has overseen numerous independent study courses.       Foundation Fund Established to Aid Nepalese Students In response to emails from alumni and friends asking what they could do to help current Nepalese students, a fund has been established through the Truman State University Foundation to provide financial educational support for students who have been impacted by this tragedy.       Phi Tau Cookout for Kids Celebrates 20th Anniversary The cookout menu includes barbecued half chicken or pork steak, baked beans, coleslaw, bread and a soda or bottled water for $9. Food is delivered or can be picked up between 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at 215 N. High Street. Orders can be placed online until April 6.
