5 Things to Bring to Your Dorm Room

By Marina Fanning

Getting ready to move into your dorm room on the Truman State University campus is an exciting time but packing for college can be a difficult task. You don’t want to bring too much, but at the same time, you want to have the basics covered. Here are some items you will want to include on your packing list but be sure to scroll all the way down for a link to a more detailed list from Truman’s Residence Life. We can’t wait to see you on Move-In Day.

1. Anything purple

To celebrate the school colors of purple and white, the campus has Purple Fridays where everyone is encouraged to wear purple. If you don’t have a lot of purple, it will only be a matter of time before half your closet is full of the color often associated with royalty.

2. Pictures

Don’t have a boring dorm room, bring pictures of friends and family. Most importantly, if you have a pet, bring pictures of him or her because you will miss your pet. Leave room for pictures of memories you will make here at Truman.

3. Rain gear

Remember that it rains in Missouri, especially during the spring semester, so you will want to have an umbrella, rain boots and a rain jacket on hand. You don’t want to be that student sitting in class drenched from the unexpected rainfall.

4. Hobby supplies

Whether you are into music, sports or crafting, most likely you will meet new friends who enjoy the same hobbies that you do. As a student, you will need stress relieving activities, and there’s no better way to get rid of stress than to share your favorite hobby with fellow students.

5. A winter coat

In Missouri, you get to experience all four seasons—spring, summer, fall and winter. Be prepared for that first winter snowfall that turns the campus into a beautiful winter wonderland.
