International Literacy Association (ILA)

About Us: Truman State University’s International Literacy Association is a club to promote literacy on campus and in the community. The ILA strives to show students of all ages how important it is to be literate. We reach out to the community by reading books with grade school children, holding fundraisers to purchase books, and participating in things like Box Top for Education so that we can donate books to local classrooms. This year, we hope to adopt a classroom and raise funds specifically for them. In addition to promoting literacy among young students, we also hope to do so within our own members. We read a book every month and have meetings to discuss the book. It’s almost like a book club, except we also have snacks. In short, the Truman ILA promotes literacy by having fun.
