BA, Communication - Truman State University
With a BA in Communication and master’s level course work in Counseling, Melody has been a member of the Admission Office staff since 1985. Beginning her employment as an admission counselor representing Northeast/Truman at high schools in western Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska, Melody has served in many capacities including coordinating the University’s special visit events, working with Student Ambassadors and Telecounselors, and overseeing development of publications for prospective students.
In her current role as Director of Admission, Melody enjoys the opportunity to work with a team of talented people who are actively engaged in the process of helping prospective students navigate the college selection process and oversees the admission and scholarship processes for incoming students.
Originally from St. Joseph, MO, Melody has also lived in Georgia and Iowa. As a Northeast/Truman student, she was a member of the Franklin Street Singers, NEMO Singers (now Cantoria), Student Ambassadors and also served as a Writing Center tutor and a peer advisor in the Career Center. Melody's love of Truman runs deep and support of the University is a family affair. Her husband also worked at Truman and her family includes three daughters – one who served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Malawi, Africa after her December 2011 Truman graduation, one who uses her Truman theatre background in Orlando, and one who attends Kirksville High School.
Outside of work, Melody enjoys living vicariously through the adventures of her daughters, singing with the Kirksville Community Chorus and, as time permits, sewing costumes and baking.
